The first shop window museum in Switzerland is located in Mürren. It offers us access to the history of the village, tells stories, presents important cultural and socio-historical themes and creates a link to the present day. The exhibition is renewed annually.

A walk through history. More than 100 original, centuries-old buildings from all parts of Switzerland, 250 native farm animals, original gardens and fields as well as demonstrations of traditional crafts and special events turn the past into an experience. And the Ballenberg is unique. The museum is not only an important cultural, research and tourism institution, but also one of the most important employers in the region with almost 200 employees during the season.

Here you can find out more about the history of Grindelwald. How the municipality at the foot of the Eiger has developed from a mountain farming village into a tourist resort. In addition to historical facts, topics such as the myth of the Eiger and mountaineering in general, agriculture and alpine farming, winter sports, railways, technology, crafts and mountain painting are also covered. The museum is located right next to the village church - and is also an impressive photo opportunity.

The museum building bears the name "The Mill". Grain was still milled here until the middle of the 19th century. The millstone can still be seen today in the small square in front of the building. The valley museum has been housed here, in one of Lauterbrunnen's oldest houses, since 1984. Here you can find out interesting facts about the history, culture and social development of the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The permanent exhibition focuses on life and work in the mountains, agriculture and alpine farming as well as cottage industries - with a specific insight into the well-known craft of lace-making. An important place is also given to the development of tourism, the most important economic sector in the valley. Special exhibitions are also organised on a regular basis.  
And in the Museum of Legends you can find out how myths and legends have shaped the lives of people in the valley. Including storytelling events in the museum's cosy parlours - or on hikes to places in the valley where miraculous events are said to have taken place.

Unfortunately, customs and cultural assets are all too often lost in today's fast-moving world. The Hasli Museum in Meiringen collects and documents these contemporary witnesses. Episodes and historical events from the Haslital are highlighted in special exhibitions.
