Rosenlaui - Hasliberg

Rosenlaui - Hasliberg

Via Berna trail no. 17

Experience report

First the pleasure, then the work

Over 30 degrees are forecast for our hiking day. So we decide to start early so that we can complete a large part of the stage in the cool morning. That means we meet at 7.15 a.m. in Interlaken. There are three of us on the way. Actually. Because Daniela misses her train, we are only a duo for the time being. We take the train to Meiringen - and then the PostBus to the tradition-steeped Hotel Rosenlaui. We start hiking right away. The first section is beautiful and leads us along the Reichenbach out of the valley. We enjoy the cool air from the stream - and also the view back to the Rosenlaui Glacier again and again. After a good hour we reach the Zwirgi inn. In the meantime Daniela has also joined us - our hiking group is complete. Now we descend a little more steeply over stick, stone and somewhat dangerously slippery slate slabs. We are delighted when the Via Berna signpost leads us towards the Reichenbach Waterfall. We visit the Sherlock Holmes crash site. The waterfall with its seven steps is spectacular and the view of the nostalgic Reichenbach funicular completes the picture. We continue further and further out of the valley. By the time we reach the village of Schattenhalb, we have already climbed 800 metres.

Arriving at the Aare, after two hours of walking, we treat ourselves to a well-deserved lunch break in the shade - and see directly in front of us what is still to come: the ascent towards Hasliberg-Reuti. The work after the pleasure, so to speak.

Freshly fortified, we set off and are relieved to find that most of the ascent runs through the forest - and we are thus protected from the steadily rising heat. But the ascent is really steep. The signpost says it takes 50 minutes to Hasliberg-Reuti. It takes us much longer and we have to take repeated breaks to catch our breath. We are very happy when we reach the viewpoint "Miliflüo". What a view! Highly motivated again, we take the last part of the trail under our hiking boots. When we reach our destination, we reward ourselves with an ice-cream cocktail at the Hotel Reuti.
