Magical evening atmosphere between Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau

When the last rays of sunlight bathe the mountain peaks in golden light, the Jungfrau Region becomes especially peaceful and breathtaking. Whether you want to capture the moment, find tranquility, or simply enjoy nature – here are five perfect spots for an unforgettable sunset.

Mürren – Evening mood by the tree stump

🚡 Accessible by: Cable car from Lauterbrunnen & Grütschalp
📍 Best view: At the iconic tree stump along Mürren’s main street
🕓 Best time: Spring to autumn

In the heart of Mürren stands a distinctive tree stump, offering a cinematic backdrop overlooking the Lauterbrunnen Valley as the evening sun dips below the horizon. The surrounding peaks glow softly in the fading light.

👉 Photo tip: Use a short telephoto lens to capture the glowing rock faces, or a wide-angle lens to emphasize the dramatic atmosphere over the valley.

Männlichen – Above the Clouds

🚠 Accessible by: Gondola from Grindelwald or Wengen
📍 Best view: Viewpoint above the top station
🕓 Best time: June to September, around 7:00 PM

The Männlichen is renowned for its panoramic views – on clear days stretching as far as the Jura. In the evening, a delicate haze often settles over the valley as the sun sets behind the Niesen, especially magical with cloud layers below.

👉 Bring: A windbreaker and a thermos for a warm drink during sunset.

Bachalpsee – Pure Reflections

🚶 Hike: 50 minutes from the Firstbahn mountain station
📍 Best view: Western shore of the lake
🕓 Best time: Mid-summer, around 8:00 PM

Bachalpsee is the ultimate photo spot. As the sun sets behind the Faulhorn, the last rays of light reflect perfectly on the calm surface of the lake, framed by Eiger, Schreckhorn, and Wetterhorn.

👉 Photo tip: A calm lake creates the best reflections about 10–15 minutes before sunset.

Kleine Scheidegg – Sunset with a Train View

🚂 Accessible by: Wengernalpbahn from Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald
📍 Best view: Hiking trail towards Fallbodensee
🕓 Best time: Spring and autumn, around 6:45 PM

Here, between the Eiger and Lauberhorn, you can experience a classic Alpine glow moment. Especially striking: the last train to Jungfraujoch passes by as the evening sun lights up the Eiger’s north face.

👉 Tip for the atmosphere: Bring a picnic blanket, camera, and allow 30 minutes before sunset
