Wengen in winter

When it snows, Wengen is transformed into a winter wonderland. Then the charming village invites you to go skiing, snowshoeing, winter hiking or out on the ice.

On the piste, get set, go!

Skiing, skiing and more skiing - in Wengen there is no way around the number one winter sport. The well-known ski destination is part of the Jungfrau Region. The aerial cableway takes you to Männlichen in just a few minutes, while the Wengernalp Railway takes you to Kleine Scheidegg. Not only perfectly groomed pistes await you here. No, you can also enjoy the magnificent panorama of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau triumvirate. The valley descent to Wengen is almost always open.

High above the Lauterbrunnen Valley

The view of the breathtaking mountains is one thing, the view down into the Lauterbrunnen Valley is another. The latter is best enjoyed on a snowshoe tour or winter hike. We would like to recommend the Leiterhorn Trail. On this easy snowshoe tour, which takes around 1.5 hours, the view into the valley of the 72 waterfalls is particularly spectacular. If necessary, you can equip yourself with the right equipment in a sports shop in the village - and also buy some food for the way. There is no way round a restaurant on this trail. In other words, it's just you and nature.

On the ice

The Wengen ice rink is located in the centre of the village. A covered ice rink invites you to play curling whatever the weather. Advanced and professional players can get started right away, beginners are recommended to take a beginner's course - or "Curling for everyone". Every Wednesday at 4 pm, an instructor provides the necessary information about the game of curling.

If you like ice skating, you can do so on the large outdoor ice rink. Skates can be hired for six francs.

Perfect for bad weather days or in the evening when the pistes and hiking trails are closed.

The Lauberhorn races

Heroes are born here. Every January, the world's biggest ski stars visit Wengen for the International Lauberhorn Races. The highlight of the event is the longest downhill run in the ski circuit, which usually takes place on Saturday. On the notorious course, the racers reach speeds of up to 160 km/h in front of tens of thousands of spectators. While the protagonists only have their eyes on the numerous key sections, you can also enjoy the majestic backdrop - unique in the ski circuit - from time to time.

Back from the piste, the snowshoe tour or the ice rink? Then we recommend a leisurely stroll through the charming mountain village. Wengen is only accessible by public transport. Accordingly, there is very little traffic in the village with its many cosy chalets. Yes, and then you absolutely have to stop for a bite to eat. How about a hot mulled wine or a delicious rösti? You'll be spoilt for choice in the numerous restaurants in Wengen.
