The sun terrace above the Lauterbrunnen Valley
Mürren consists of sun tanned chalets and some hotels. As a car-free village it embodies the idyll and tranquillity of the mountain world.
If you visit Mürren, you should definitely use both ways that lead to the mountain village.
The really spectacular approach via Stechelberg offers a cable car cabin that leads steeply up into the heights. The somewhat more leisurely journey leads over Grütschalp. There you can enjoy the little train which, passing snow-covered peaks, takes you right through the mountain world.
The mountain village consists of not much more than two roads. From one to the other end of the place it takes just 15 minutes on foot. But that does not include time for taking pictures, enjoying the view and shopping.
Mürren is a quiet, hidden gem and is happy about every guest who appreciates this.
From the viewpoint on the lower Dorfstrasse (location) you can take holiday photos that will surely make it into the album. Behind every corner you will discover a new photo subject in this village. Be it a blooming garden or an artfully decorated house wall with a snow-covered roof.
If you would like to relax a little, let yourself be pampered by the hosts of the village on one of the sun terraces. You will not be able to miss the impressive panorama.
Most restaurants offer traditional Swiss cuisine. Something Italian can also be found everywhere. The Hotel Jungfrau offers Malaysian specialities and in Thams Snack there are other Asian dishes on the menu. The haute cuisine can be found at the Hotel Eiger, although in autumn you should certainly enjoy the game dish at the Bellevue.
If you would like coffee, cake and vegan snacks, Café Liv is the place to be.
The shops offer everything from new trekking shoes to traditional snow globes, jewellery and locally produced textiles. Special souvenirs of Mürren can be found in the "Exile on Mainstreet", the shop runs the brand Piz Gloria, which embodies the region.
Local specialities such as mountain cheese, sausage and honey are of course not missing. These can also be bought comfortably at any time from the farm vending machine.
