Ostegg via ferrata
Like an eagle's eyrie, the Ostegg hut is perched high above the Grindelwald Valley.
From Alpiglen train station (Grindelwald-Kleine Scheidegg train) via the Eiger Trail to the Bonera turn-off. Continue towards Bonera as far as Rinderalp at point 1,773. Continue along the path, cross a noticeable gorge and afterwards turn in an easterly direction, climbing the rocky slope until you can ascend the grassy slope on the right. Turn left again at the first opportunity on an obvious ridge. From here the general direction is easterly, climbing steadily under a prominent grassy saddle and across steep grassy slopes up to the pile of stones in the saddle.
Then it becomes less steep - over the scree slope to the rocks where the cables start. Using the cables and steps continue upwards in slightly flatter terrain to the obvious groove, running downhill. A strenuous climb up the rut. As soon as this becomes easier, one can soon traverse to the right to the Ostegg hut.
